Privacy policy

The short version: we collect what you type into the early-access form and what you send us by email. We use it to talk to you about CHINOOK, and for nothing else. This website sets no cookies, runs no analytics and doesn't track you. We don't sell your information.

Draft for legal review. This page describes how we actually handle information today, but a lawyer hasn't reviewed it yet. If anything here matters to a decision you're making, write to chinookintelligence@gmail.com and we'll answer directly.

Who we are

This policy is issued by CHINOOK (“CHINOOK”, “we”, “us”). We decide how and why the personal information described here is used, which makes us its controller (a “data fiduciary” under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023).

For any question about this policy or your information, write to chinookintelligence@gmail.com. Messages with the subject “Privacy request” go to the person responsible for privacy.

What this policy covers

This policy covers personal information we collect when you:

  • visit this website;
  • sign up for early access;
  • write to us, or we write to you about CHINOOK.

It does not cover data that customers load into the CHINOOK platform, such as plant telemetry, point lists, project documents and user accounts. That data is processed on the customer's instructions under their agreement with us, which includes its own data protection terms.

  • We set no cookies and use no local storage on this website.
  • We run no analytics, advertising, session-recording or social media scripts.
  • Fonts and all other assets are served from our own domain, so visiting does not send your details to a font or content provider.

Who we share it with

We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers who process it on our behalf, under contract, and only to provide their service to us:

ProviderWhat they do for usInformation involved
SupabaseDatabase that stores early-access sign-upsSign-ups, abuse-prevention hashes
Our website hosting providerServes this website and runs the sign-up formHosting logs; sign-ups in transit
Google (Gmail)EmailCorrespondence

We plan to use a customer relationship management (CRM) system, such as HubSpot, to manage early-access conversations. We'll update this list before any sign-up is sent to it.

We may also disclose information when the law requires it, to protect the rights and safety of others, or as part of a merger or acquisition. In that last case, the information stays protected by this policy and we'll tell you before it becomes subject to a different one.

Where your information is stored

Our providers may store and process information outside the country where you live, including in India, the European Union and the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, and we do not transfer personal information to any country the Government of India has restricted.

How long we keep it

InformationHow long
Early-access sign-upWhile early access is open, and up to 24 months after our last contact with you. Then it is deleted.
CorrespondenceAs long as needed to deal with the conversation, then as long as the law requires for business records.
Abuse-prevention hashesUp to 24 hours.
Hosting logsAs set by our hosting provider, typically a few days to a few weeks.

How we protect it

Sign-ups are stored in a database with row-level security that only our server can read or write. Keys that grant that access are kept server-side only. Traffic to this site is encrypted. Access is limited to the people at CHINOOK who need it to talk to you. Read more on our security page.

Your rights

Wherever you are, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you and how we use it;
  • correct, complete or update it;
  • delete it;
  • stop contacting you, or withdraw your consent, at any time;
  • give you a copy of it in a common format.

Write to chinookintelligence@gmail.com from the address you signed up with. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect anything we did before you withdrew it. We'll answer within one month, and tell you if we need longer.

If you are in India

Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you can also nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become incapacitated, and seek grievance redressal from us first. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom

You also have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests and to restrict processing, and you may complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office).

If you are in California

We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we don't use sensitive personal information. You can use the rights above, and we won't treat you differently for doing so.

Children

This website and early access are for professionals. They are not meant for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information about children. If you believe a child has given us information, write to chinookintelligence@gmail.com and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

When we change how we handle personal information, we'll update this page and its date. If a change is significant, for example a new purpose or a new kind of recipient, we'll email people on the early-access list before it takes effect.
